Mein "Nähstein" = My Hand-Stitching Station

Vor 2 Wochen haben 4 Patchcats und ich bei Gerda getroffen um badische Nähsteine zu basteln...alle Steine im Garten waren mir nicht hoch genug, habe aber ein Glasbetonstück bekommen und das ist perfekt--ist nicht zu schwer und ich kann´s Jahrelang als Hand-Näh-Station herumtragen. :o)

Ich hab´s voll bepackt inklusiv Donut mit Garnspulen für Applikationen, plus kleine Geschenke von Freundinnen: Umhängescheretasche von Gerda, Mülleimer/Nadelkissen von Margarete (passt perfekt ins Donut!), Metallknopf mit "Bobbi Jo" gestanzt von Roswitha, Hängenadelkissen "Schnecke" von Elfriede, Stiefmütterchen Ornament gestickt von Andrea und sogar ein kleiner Anhänger von meine Oma. Es ist voll praktisch und schön... vielen Dank für´s Superidee und Schlafplatz mit Katzenquilt, liebe Gerda!

Two weeks ago, 4 Patchcats and I got together to make "sewing stones" at Gerda´s house...none of the many stones in her garden were high enough but the piece of porous concrete they gave me to use is perfect--not too heavy and I´m sure I´ll be able to it around for years!

I´ve filled it up with all I need for my hand-stitching including a bobbin donut of appliqué threads, plus little gifts from friends: embroidery scissor pouch from Gerda, thread-catcher/pincushion (that fits perfectly into the center of the donut!), metal button with my name embossed from Roswitha, a small hanging "snail" pincushion from Elfriede, a sweet tiny hanging pansy ornament stitched by Andrea and even a little beaded pendant from my grandma. It´s so very practical and pretty...thanks so much for the great idea Gerda, and thanks for the comfy bed complete with cat quilt over the weekend!

 Gepolsterte Nähsteingröße ist ca. 11x11x18cm.

The padded stone itself is about 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 7-1/2 inches.

In letzter Zeit habe ich auch noch ein Vintage Sampler Block (4.) appliziert...

...fertigte 3 UFO-Wandbehänge, eins hat Friedl gleich zur Geburtstag bekommen...

...finished 3 UFO wallhangings and gave one to Friedl for her birthday...

...Block/Zwischenstreifen/Bordürenstücke nach Esther Alius "Forget Me Not" BOM Teil 1 (oben rechts klicken!) gewaschen/gebügelt/geschnitten...

...washed/ironed and precut the block/sashing/border pieces per Part 1 of Esther Aliu´s "Forget Me Not" BOM (click on button top right!)...



 ...meine letzte 6er Set Katzenblöcke fertig (die ich erst nach dem Tauschen in April zeigen kann) ... ein Beutelmuster von Gerda studiert und versucht, nachzumachen (war schnell aber ... ist nicht besonders...) und heute noch ein wildes Kissenbezug für Verena zum Geburtstag (sie liebt Giraffen :o)) gemacht...

...my last 6 blocks set of cats (which I don´t show until after the swap in April) ... studied Gerda´s little pouch and tried to copy it (was fast but...nothing special, I like other types better...) and today I made Verena a wild pillow for her birthday this week--she loves giraffes!

Heidis Fliegende Gänse Farben habe ich noch sortiert liegen, denke die Farben sind so ganz gut und kann endlich mit dem Schneiden anfangen...

Heidi´s flying geese fabric colors are spread out on my table and I think I may finally have the colors right, can start cutting hundreds of pieces for the quilt top...

1 Puppe + 4 Bären // A Doll and Four Bears

Nein, ich rede nicht von Goldilocks. :o)

OK, die Puppe fehlt noch...aber für Franks Tochter Angel habe ich eine Tragetasche mit Matratze/Kissen/Puppenquilt fertig zum Schenken, in dem sie ihre Lieblingspuppe hoffentlich gerne schlaffen lässt:

True, the doll´s still missing in the picture...but I´ve finished a doll carrier with matching mattress/pillow/quilt for Frank´s little girl Angel, and I hope she´ll like it well enough to let her favorite doll sleep in it:

In der Zwischenzeit kam Heidi ihr Stuhlkissen abholen...und ich habe erfahren, dass sie keine Prairie Points mag, und sowieso zu viele Kissen schon hat...d.h. dass ich ausnahmsweise ein Projekt auf die Liste im Voraus bin, weil die Bären Inge oder Frau Roetter bestimmt gefallen werden!

In the meantime, Heidi came to claim her seat cushion and I soon discovered 1) she doesn´t like prairie points and 2) she has more than enough throw pillows already. So that means that there must be a blue moon out, because I for once am ahead on my project list, since I´m pretty sure Inge or Frau Roetter will be happy to give the bears a home!

Und schließlich lande ich wieder bei Katzen. :o)

Bis 13.April habe ich für´s PatchcatsTreff2012 (bei Roter Bühl im Schwarzwald) vier 6-er Sets Katzenblöcke zu nähen (2x helles Hintergrund und 2x Schwarz) und dann wird mit andere getauscht. Ein Set Hell habe ich schon vor ein paar Wochen fertig aber darf noch nicht zeigen--Fotos gibt´s erst nach dem Treffen, versprochen.

Also muss ich hier weg, heute nähe ich mehr Katzen. Schönen Sticheltag!

Dolls and bears out of the way--guess where I´m going now? I´m back to cats. :o)

I have to finish 4 different sets (6/set) of cat blocks (2 w/light and 2 w/black backgrounds) by April 13th, which is when the blocks will be swapped with other Patchcats who meet (at the Roter Bühl hotel in the Black Forest) for the weekend. One light set was finished a few weeks ago but I´m not showing them yet--there will be photos of all the cat blocks after the swap, I promise.

Endlich angefangen...--Finally started...

...der Vintage Sampler 2012 Block des Monats! Ich werde versuchen so oft wie möglich die gleiche Farben (wie auf dem Muster) zu nehmen und ganz einfach zu halten, übe wieder mal die Needle-Turn Methode zum applizieren. Fertig sind Blocks 1 & 2 von Januar:

...the Vintage Sampler 2012 BOM! I´m trying to stick with the same coloring as pictured on the patterns as well as keeping the appliqué simple--and using the needle-turn appliqué method again. January´s blocks 1 & 2 are finished so far:

Heute habe ich auch Heidis Rattanstuhl Kissenbezug gefertigt und sie wird überrascht sein...ich hatte 2 Muster zur Auswahl die gefallen könnten und konnte nicht entscheiden, welche ihr am Besten gefällt. Also werde ich einen passenden Kissenbezug dazu mit dem 2. Muster nähen. :o)

I also finished Heidi´s quilted seat cushion cover today and she´s gonna be surprised...I´d chosen 2 different patterns to patch which I thought she´d really like but it was so difficult to decide which she´d like best. Soooo...I´ll just make a matching throw pillow cover while I have those fabrics out, using the 2nd pattern.

Ich bin sooo froh, dass es draußen nicht mehr so eisig kalt ist! Hier ein Pelzfoto...draußen kalt aber innen warmes Marmor für die  glückliche Katzen! Ruby zeigt´s:

Hello happy quilters!

Es ist so kalt draußen aber im Nähzimmer warm...weil ich meine Stoffvorräte nachgefüllt habe um die Regale besser zu isolieren. :o) Ganz tolle Stoffe von patchwork-kreativ59 (Brigitte Kretschmars Laden, s. www.patchwork-kreativ-online.de ) at Ebay gekauft! Zusammen mit Stoffe von Hancock´s of Paducah habe ich 2 Tage gewaschen, gebügelt...Heidi, siehst Du Deine 2 Geschenke dazwischen?!

It´s so cold outside but warm in the sewing room--partly due to the extra insulation I´ve just added to the shelves. :o) This past week I bought some really great fabrics from patchwork-kreativ59 (see Brigitte Kretschmar´s shop at www.patchwork-kreativ-online.de )...and together with other fabrics I got some time back from Hancock´s, I´ve spent the past couple of days washing and ironing...Heidi´s been the same kind of busy this week too, so I´ve added a photo to show her why I haven´t started her quilt yet. *grin!*

...hhhmmm...in letzter Zeit viel los...habe ein paar Fotos um mich dran zu erinnern. Erstens, Frau Roetter vor 3 Wochen als sie das erste Mal hand-quilten probiert (Ruby in Gesellschaft :o)):

So much has been going on the past few weeks, it´s a good thing I have a few photos to remind me of the things you might like a look at. First, Mrs Roetter tries hand-quilting for the first time 3 weeks ago (Ruby keeping her company):

Eine Woche später kam sie wieder um den Quilt lieber von der Maschine gequiltet zu haben, was wir spontan gleich erledigt haben.

A week later she came by requesting it be machine-quilted, which we immediately accomplished on the longarm.

 Ich habe auch für Margarete gequiltet. Sie schickte vor Monate eine wunderschöne scrappy Quilttop, Rückseitenstoff und 7 extra Blöcke die ich auf die Rückseite irgendwie bringen sollte. Gestern rief sie an, liebt ihr Quilt und jetzt kann ich´s Euch auch zeigen (Kundin muss zuerst sehen!:o)).

I also did some quilting for Margarete who, some months ago, sent a gorgeous scrappy quilt top plus 7 extra blocks to add to her quilt back. Since she called yesterday completely happy with the finished quilt, I can show it to you (customer has first look! :o)):

heute kam ganz tolle Weihnachtspost von Elfriede, lieben Dank für die tolle Überraschungen! Noch dazu ein Muster für´s 366 Häuser 2012 zum gleich loslegen...ob ich das auch noch schaffe?! Könnte es probieren. :o) Link/Bild hier rechts dafür, wer noch Lust hat!

But first:  I got a great little Christmas package today from Elfriede, thanks so much for all the lovely surprises! Included is a pattern ready-to-cut and -sew, so I can get started with the 366 Houses in 2012 right off...I wonder if I can manage that this year, too? Well, I can give it a try. The button for it is here at the right, for anyone interested!

Vor Monate schon mit dem Hand-Patchen fertig, wartete mein Aunt Clara Top auf Fertigung und gestern habe ich das Kuschelgeschenk für Uli + Jürgen fertig genäht!

My Aunt Clara quilt top has been waiting to be completed ever since I finished the hand-piecing months ago and yesterday I finally completed Uli + Juergen´s cuddly quilt!

Und...vor 2 Monate habe ich nach Wünsch einer Matthias das 1.FCN Nürnberger Spruch gestickt, dann letzte Woche als Kissenbezug in seiner Lieblingsfarben gefertigt und geschenkt:

And...per Matthias´ request, I stitched the 1st Football Club of Nuremberg´s city motto a couple of months back, then last week finished it into a quilted pillowcase in his favorite colors and gave it to him:

Und an was habe ich heute gestichelt? Abends noch die restliche Blätter auf Renates Tischdeckchen appliziert. Morgen zeichne ich die Stiele zum Sticken...

And what stitching did I do today? This evening I finished appliquéing the last of the leaves onto Renate´s tabletopper. Tomorrow I´ll draw on the stems for embroidering...

...with a little help from Ruby, of course. :o)

Happy New Year 2012!

Wilkommen zur ersten Tag des Jahres! Was macht Ihr denn am 01.01.2012? Gleich arbeite ich weiter an ein Geschenk für Renate, die sich ein Tischdeckchen gewünscht hat. Die Rosenteile sind vorbereitet und heute fange ich das heften und applizieren an.

Welcome to the first day of the year! What are you up to today? I´ll soon continue working on a gift for Renate who requested a little tabletopper. So far I have the rose appliqués ready to place on the background, then this evening begin basting and appliqué.

Ich möchte auch "Just Takes 2" von Sentimental Stitches (Rot/Weiß Knopf rechts oben Blogseite) machen wenn es irgendwie geht und nebenbei 4 Sets Katzenblöcke (zum tauschen in April) nähen...und immer wieder ein UFO fertigen...und natürlich vieles andere noch. :o)

I´d love to start "Just Takes 2" from Sentimental Stitches (the red/white button top right of blog page) if at all possible... + somehow between projects manage to sew 4 sets of cat blocks to swap in April... + finish up a UFO every now and then... and of course so much more. :O)

Stell Euch vor, seit 9 Monate steht Shyrils Longarm bei mir und ich habe erst kurz vor Weihnachten mein erster Quilt darauf gequiltet! Bei neue Maschinen gibt es immer Problemchen durchzuarbeiten und Lernfehler...und ich hab das alles gern Shyril überlassen, ich wollte nichts kaputt machen!

So habe ich zum Verschenken ein paar große QuiltTops gefertigt auf dem ich üben kann und als erstes Robins "Dragons Rule" drauf gequiltet.

Hard to believe, but Shyril´s longarm has been up in my studio for 9 months and I only just tried my first quilt on it a few days before Christmas! There are always bugs to work thru on new machines and equipment as well as the little problems you cause while you´re learning to work with it...and I certainly didn´t want to be the one who broke something, was quite happy to let Shyril figure it all out and deal with it!

So in the meantime I managed to make a few big quilt tops to practice on and pass around to friends, the first of which is "Dragons Rule" for Robin:

Da bin ich wieder Anfänger, muss echt viel üben, geht so wahnsinnig schnell und meine Hände sind so weit vom Quilt weg...ich werde versuchen, mich dran zu gewöhnen aber kleinere Quilts werde ich auf jeden Fall weiterhin auf mein Pfaff frei-quilten!

The experience shows that I´m once again a complete beginner and will have to have an awful lot of practice quilting on the longarm before I´m happy with my work--it all happens just too fast and my hands are so far away from the quilt top, seems to have a mind of its own. I´ll try of course to get used to it quilting a few more bed quilts but one thing´s clear: anything smaller than that will be free-motioned on my Pfaff. :o)
